Rutherford's Nuclear Model

In 1909, Ernest Rutherford directed Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden to fire tiny alpha particles at a thin sheet of gold foil. What they found shattered the plum pudding model and revealed that almost all the mass of an atom is concentrated in a tiny, dense nucleus.
